Vocabulary

September 22, 2008 by NEM

I consider myself a relatively “hip” mom. I like to do fun things, I love to listen to top 40 music and stay up to date with fashion. I use words like “wicked cool” and “wicked awesome”, like a true New Englander would.

My oldest daughter, Madison is going to be five in October. She is a little fashion diva. She loves in style clothes, loves the top 40 music, and loves to do her hair all pretty. I guess essentially she is very much a miniature version of me.

The other day, Maddy stayed at my parent’s house overnight. She loves to stay over Mimi and Papa’s house, because it gives her a break from her two year old little sister, not to mention she gets spoiled when she is there!
When I called to check on her, because yes I am one of those moms who obsessively checks on my child when I am not with them, my dad was laughing hysterically. I asked my mother what was so funny, and she replied “your daughter”.
Yes, Maddy is pretty amusing; she does things that are extremely funny, and loves to get a good laugh, however this time she didn’t get the laugh on purpose. Evidently, a commercial came on that Maddy did not like. She turned to my dad and said in a matter of fact tone, “Papa, this commercial is freaking me out.” My dad thought this was the funniest thing he had ever heard.

I guess it is true that most five year olds don’t say this, however mine did. My mom let me know that she knows who Maddy gets that from. Hmmm.. Maybe hip mom over here should watch her
vocabulary a little better. Oops.
